2010 event was on Saturday 11th September.
This year the Newent Onion Fayre was opened by Adam Henson from BBC One’s Countryfile. The fun started at 10.00am on Saturday 11th September and will run throughout the whole day with fun, laughter, live music and dance, plus over 100 stands, features and fairground rides, plus the ever popular Onion Show itself!
Music came from from The Happy Amazons, Laura Price, The Roving Crows, Electric Fred, Harmony and not forgetting the ever popular Bubonic Wind Band. The popular Community Choir performed in the URC gardens at 12.30pm and 2pm and dancing groups including Morris dancers filled the streets at various times throughout the day.
This year, we saw local food and drink from the area, something that is making Newent stand out and attracting more people to the town, plus arts and crafts of all descriptions. Street musicians, children’s entertainers and the fairground stalls filled the streets and the display of wedding dresses were on display in St Mary’s Church. The Lake played host to a display of model boats, animals from Newbridge Farm Park, Dog Show and the Youth Angling Project’s ever popular fishing experience.
The town’s regeneration is in an advanced state with Falcon Court in the town centre and the all new McCarthy and Stone’s Daffodil Court complete. The town can now stand proud, decorated with its award winning floral displays making it one of the most attractive small towns in the county. The organisers estimate that this year’s event will raised another record amount of funds which will be used to see The Onion Fayre’s continued success each year.
Newent is signposted from the M50, A40, Ledbury and the Forest of Dean. . Coach and car parking is available.
